What a growth rate is, and where the game shows it
A growth rate is the percentage chance that a stat increases by one point when a unit levels up. A unit on 45% strength gains strength slightly less than every other level on average, and one on 15% gains it roughly once every seven. That is the whole mechanic, and it is why two units with the same visible stats at level 20 can end up completely different by level 35.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave prints these numbers rather than hiding them. Open a unit's detailed status screen, switch the stat display across to growth view, and press X for the tooltip. The roster screen inside the information menu carries the same toggle, which is the faster route when you are deciding which exam to take for whom. Every figure on this page was read from that screen and then cross-checked against the two community tables that publish the same data.
One caveat belongs up front: the number on that screen is only the character's personal growth. The class a unit is standing in adds its own modifiers, and those modifiers only apply while the unit is in that class. Final growth is therefore personal growth plus class modifier, which is the single most useful sentence on this page.

Featured PartnerThe extremes, for orientation
Before the tables, the spread worth knowing. These are the highest personal growths recorded for each stat, with Mu's ability line excluded so it does not distort the comparison:
- HP: Theodora 70%, Majide 65%, Tahonia 65%, Esmeralda 55%, Tobias 55%
- Strength: Tobias 60%, Goliath 60%, Orchel 60%, Nathan 60%, Esmeralda 55%
- Magic: Fianna 55%, Fabio 50%, Olympia 50%, Anatolia 50%, Eshmel 45%
- Speed: Leda 65%, Jester 60%, Peppe 60%, Creek 60%, Ludia 55%
- Dexterity: Peter 60%, Dietrich 60%, Diego 60%, Halvin 60%, Zarcone 60%
- Defence: Orchel 60%, Goliath 50%, Centurio 50%, Klapka 50%, Esmeralda 45%
Two units define the edges of the curve. Orchel grows strength, magic, defence, resistance and charm at 60% each but speed at 10%, so she either kills on the player phase or gets doubled. Mu starts as the worst unit on the roster and becomes a normal one the moment Signs of Growth is in play, which is a 20 point swing on every single stat.
Character growth rates (63 units)
Grouped by the army or faction the unit arrives with, because that is how the roster screen sorts them and how most players look a unit up.

Class growth modifiers (59 classes)
These are the additions and penalties a class applies while a unit is in it. A negative number subtracts from the personal growth, so parking a fast unit in heavy armour really does cost speed every level. Commoner is the class the game starts everyone in and it modifies nothing, which is the argument for leaving it as early as the exam list allows.

Percentage modifiers, applied to the personal growth above. Four further classes exist in the data with no way to obtain them yet, and they are listed with the rest of the cut content on the datamine page rather than mixed into this table.
How to turn two tables into a build
Work backwards from the stat the unit already grows. A 60% strength unit with 20% strength in a heavy class is wasting the one thing it does well, while a 65% speed unit parked in a class that subtracts speed will lose the doubling threshold it was recruited for. The modifiers are large enough to matter: Battlemaster adds 25 to HP and strength, Druid adds 30 to magic, Castle Knight adds 30 to defence and subtracts 15 from speed, and Dancer adds 25 to speed with 20 charm.
The practical sequence is exam first, grind second. A unit that promotes at level 10 and then levels twenty times in its master class banks the modifier on all twenty levels; the same unit that grinds to level 30 first only benefits afterwards. The exceptions are the units whose personal spread is lopsided enough that their "recommended" class fights it, and Orchel is the standing example: a 10% speed unit gains more from walls of HP and defence than from chasing a doubling it will never reach.
For the exam ladder, renown gates and the route-locked classes, see classes and certification exams. To test a combination against these numbers directly, use the class planner.
The class system in motion
Tables settle arguments about which class to take, but the exam ladder, renown gates and promotion timing make more sense watched than read. This class guide covers the route through the tiers and where the breaks worth planning around sit:
- Exam timing is gated by Renown. Beginner exams are open from the start, Specialty unlocks at Renown level four and Advanced at eight, which is the same ladder the class table on this site records. That is why the renown grind is a growth-rate decision and not a side activity.
- Some classes are route-locked. His examples are the ones worth knowing before you plan a build: Leda reaches a dancer-adjacent class and the Troubadour, Cai also reaches the Troubadour plus Caladrius and Dragoon unusually early, and Dietrich reaches Blacksmith. A class that looks strong on the table can be unavailable to the unit you wanted it for.
- The screen itself has two views. On the class screen the stat view and the growth view sit on the shoulder buttons, so you can compare archetypes and then read the personal growths without leaving the menu. Our table is that second view, transcribed.
Creator analysis, embedded for context rather than cited as a data source. The numbers on this page come from the in-game status screen, not from the auto-captions; the video is used here for the route locks and menu layout, which the captions render reliably.
Why luck and charm sit outside the main four
A growth table invites the wrong conclusion: that every point of every stat is worth the same. It is not, and the clearest explanation of the gap we have found is a stats analysis that builds four weighting formulas and then explains why two of them fail.
- Luck and charm are weighted down, deliberately. His reasoning: luck only feeds critical hits and critical avoidance, and it shares that job with dexterity, which he treats as the better of the two. Charm he discounts outright. Treat the weights as his judgement rather than a rule, but the underlying point holds — a 50% luck growth is not the equal of a 50% strength growth.
- Base stat totals mislead. The two highest totals on his sheet belong to Dietrich and to Talamond, and he immediately notes that Talamond is not a top-tier unit by his own read. Reordering by weighted value promotes Theodora and moves Mu up, which is the same conclusion this page reaches from the other direction: growth and totals are inputs, not verdicts.
- The archer strength split checks out. He singles out Inyoni as the only archer near 50 strength growth while the rest sit near 35, and calls Goliath's magic growth effectively unusable. Both match the columns above exactly, because both used the same in-game screen, which makes this a useful independent check on the table rather than a second opinion about it.
Creator analysis with explicit weighting choices, so it is opinion where it ranks units and mechanics where it describes what a stat does. The growth figures quoted in this section were read off our own table, not taken from the auto-captions.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you see growth rates in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave?
- Open a unit's detailed status screen and toggle the stat display; pressing X then shows the growth tooltip. The information menu's roster screen has the same switch, which is faster when you want to compare several units before spending an exam.
- Do class growth modifiers stack with character growth rates?
- They add. Final growth equals the character's personal growth plus the current class modifier, so the class a unit is sitting in when it levels is what matters. Because the bonus only applies while the unit is in that class, a promotion worth taking is usually worth taking before the long grind rather than after it.
- Why are there two rows for Mu?
- Mu's personal ability Signs of Growth adds 20 points to every growth. Her base line reads 30 HP and 5 Magic, and the second row shows what she actually levels with while the ability is active, which is why she reads as a late bloomer in one table and a strong unit in the other.
- Which class should each character take?
- Start from the stat a unit is actually good at and then pick the class whose modifiers push that stat, rather than picking a class for its name. The suggested class column records the recommendation published alongside these tables, and the class planner on this site lets you test a combination against the modifiers on this page.
- Do these growth rates cover every unit in the game?
- This table covers 63 units, the full set that both published growth tables list. Serenes Forest files ten further names under a DLC heading with growth values attached; those are discussed separately because the units behind them are not confirmed roster entries.
Where these numbers come from
Character rows follow Serenes Forest's growth table, which is compiled from the in-game status screen; class rows follow KeenGamer's table because the Serenes class table loses its empty cells when read as text. Sixteen rows were compared value by value across both sources and matched exactly, and the one disagreement found (Sofia) is recorded rather than resolved silently. Both pages were read on 2026-10-30.
