Four talents, four different games

A route talent is a world map ability that only functions on its owner's own path. That single rule does more to separate the four Part I routes than the chapter lists do, because it decides what kind of upkeep you spend your free time on: hunting hidden enemies for Renown, staffing settlements with battalions, running a farm, or playing the tavern.

Route talents are world map abilities that only work on the Flame Lord~s own path, which is part of why the four Part I routes play differently.

A talent cannot be borrowed by another lord: Cai cannot farm on Dietrich~s route and Theodora cannot recruit battalions on Leda~s.

Each talent feeds systems covered elsewhere on this site, so these rows connect to the battalions, farming, mounts and activities pages.

01 · Core Mechanics

Universal Mastery & Authority

Mastery abilities can be equipped across any class once unlocked. Prioritize Authority ranks early: adjacent passive auras like Olympia's Attack Formation (+1 Atk) and Katana's Distraction (-3 foe Hit) require zero action economy cost.

02 · Priority Masteries

Shaman, Knight & Ornith

Dip early into specialty masteries: Shaman's Bind Dexterity (-3 Dex/Crit aura to foes), Armored Knight's Great Counter (+3 Atk when attacked on Enemy Phase), and Armored Ornith Rider's Sense Threat (+20 Avoid against effective weapons).

03 · Level 20 Spikes

Personal Signature Talents

Units unlock game-changing personal passives at Level 20: Esmeralda gains Throwing Arm (+10 Hit, +2 Atk on ranged lances), while Olympia gains Ardent Nosferatu (+3 Atk, +5 Crit on self-healing white magic).

The four route talents

Dietrich - Answerer's Cry

Unlock: A world map command available from Part I Chapter 4.

What it does: Reveals randomly hidden enemies inside a circular area for two turns.

Why it pays: Defeating those enemies in a Skirmish yields Magic Echo Shards, which strengthen Combat Arts at the Smyrnos shrine, and Renown as well.

Limit: Repeated use narrows the area of effect. It recovers over time, or by entering and leaving bases and dungeons.

Also: Exploring also occasionally triggers duel bounty requests against a strong enemy, and winning can add Renown again and may teach a new Combat Art.(source marks this unverified)

Theodora - Gambits and Battalions

Unlock: Recruit Soldiers on the world map, Rousing Speech from Renown 5, and the Transport Chief from Part I Chapter 7.

What it does: Recruits battalions from settlement nodes, which unlock the Gambit command on any infantry unit they are given to.

Why it pays: Battalions also gather materials unattended when stationed at Search nodes, and surplus ones convert into troop points towards a Tactics Manual.

Limit: Mounted units can never carry one, a unit can only equip a battalion at or below its own Authority, and gambits cannot be used during Clashes.

Also: Battalion quality and the number deployable at once improve at Renown 5, 7 and 9.(source marks this unverified)

Wolf Obelisk

Cai - Animal Mounts and Crop Farming

Unlock: Both are introduced by the Chapter 5 and 6 subquests.

What it does: Captures animal mounts and plants crops on the world map, which is where the fertiliser, Rest Spot healing and weekly Bird Time food all come from.

Why it pays: Crops trade with the Vandahl merchants for weapons and accessories and pay quest item requests.

Limit: Farming needs an empty pentagon tile and is gated by Renown for the number of plots.

Also: Failed captures still pay out, because they yield the fertiliser that improves rare-crop odds.

Fox Obelisk

Leda - Spellsong Performances

Unlock: Through the Perform tasks recorded in the sidequest list.

What it does: Performing at the tavern yields Renown, gold and Spellsong upgrades.

Why it pays: Renown is the account-wide stat that gates recruitment, battalions, farming plots and the Renown perks elsewhere, so a perform routine compounds.

Limit: Not recorded.

Reading the four together

Renown is the thread that ties them. It is account-wide, it gates recruitment rows, battalion quality and deployment, the number of farming plots you can run, and every "improves after a route completion" step in the post-game. Dietrich's hidden-enemy hunt pays Renown per skirmish and Leda's performances pay Renown directly, so on those two paths the talent is really a Renown engine with a minigame attached.

Cai's pair of mechanics is the opposite trade: crops and mounts pay in materials rather than in account progress, and those materials then buy weapons and accessories from the Vandahl merchants, pay Rest Spot healing inside dungeons and feed the Pale Raven weekly. Theodora sits in between, converting gold and town visits into combat strength through battalions that also gather materials unattended.

None of the four is a small bonus, which is worth saying because that is the assumption a lot of players arrive with. Pick a path by which of these four loops you are willing to run weekly for the length of a Part I route.

What no source has recorded

  • No talents for anyone but the four Flame Lords: no other character~s talent is recorded by any source checked.
  • No Spellsong detail: the upgrade is named and never quantified.
  • No mount or crop list: Cai~s two mechanics each lack a data table in every source checked.

Frequently asked questions

Does every character have a hero talent?
No. Route talents belong to the four Flame Lords only, and no source checked records a talent for any other character. That is why the table here has exactly four rows rather than one per recruitable unit.
Can you use another lord's talent?
No. Each talent works only on its owner's own path, which is a large part of why the four Part I routes play differently: Cai cannot farm on Dietrich's route and Theodora cannot recruit battalions on Leda's.
What should I do with a talent I do not care about?
Check whether it feeds Renown, because Renown is account-wide and gates recruitment, battalions, farming plots and the Renown perks elsewhere. Dietrich's hidden-enemy hunt and Leda's performances both pay Renown directly, so even a talent you do not enjoy buying into compounds across the account.
Which talent is the strongest?
No source publishes a ranking, and the honest answer is that the four do different jobs rather than competing: one generates Renown from combat, one produces battalions, one produces crops and mounts, and one produces gold and Spellsong upgrades. Pick by which system you want to engage with rather than by a tier list.

Each of these four feeds a page of its own: battalions, crop farming, mounts, and the activities section for the Pale Raven routines.
